Creating Silk "Paper"

ttcombo1.jpg

From the Treetops Colour Harmonies Website comes this interesting new way to create a sheet of silk that can be used in collage, with felting, creating art to wear or just about anything you can dream up.

By simply laying down a sheet of unspun silk fiber and "gluing" it together with various adhesive mediums you can create a sheet of shimmering silk paper. This article written by Nancy Ballesteros (in Perth, Australia) gives you all the necessary information to try this technique for yourself. Here is a link to the treetops website where they have a wide selection of materials and a nice photo gallery to enjoy. Get the instructional PDF here and let me know if you try this- I'd love to see your creations. Here are a few photos showing uses for the silk paper- it appears to have a nice drape and molds nicely over 3-D shapes.
